何工
He Gong
1955 生于中国重庆，1985年获得四川美术学院硕士学位，1986年赴美。自2005年任四川大学艺术学院教授，现生活工作于成都、洛杉矶。
多年以来，何工在跨文化的语境中展开对东西方社会、地缘政治、权力话语、身份差异等问题的比较学思考，这些思考也成为其艺术活动的观念基础，以知识考古方法建构叙事逻辑，以质疑和批判的态度进行创作，作品以绘画和装置为主要形态。
Born in 1955 in Chongqing, China, He Gong gained a master degree from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1985 and went to study in the United States in 1986. Currently, he teaches at the Arts College of Sichuan University and lives in Chengdu and Los Angeles.
During a long period, He Gong has been comparatively considering issues, such as West-East societies, geopolitics, power discourses and identify differences, in a cross-cultural context. These thoughts provide the cornerstones of conceptions in his art practice. He develops the narrative logic with the archeology of knowledge, creates artworks with critical attitudes, and takes painting and installation as the main form.

自1986年赴美游学始，何工便开启了一直“在路上”的游牧人生。就物质生存状况而言，何工在生活中往往感觉到某种程度的无力感。因此，极简的生存主义成为了他一直以来的策略。世界各地的艺术驻留计划是何工年轻时的游牧驿站，也是他即将开始的环球自驾的路线坐标。
与同代人相比，他的游牧生活显得特别。选择这样的生活，是其天性使然，更是与过去的经历和阅读有关。在上大学之前，他生活在一个封闭的环境里，而且，封闭的环境只有一个单一的声音。《鲁滨逊漂流记》和《在路上》所描述的世界与生活方式都使其着迷与向往。
何工的游牧式生活有着自身的特点和视角，即他所选择的地方总是与他过去所阅读或听闻过的地方有关，而非漫无目的的流浪。他对过去的兴趣远胜于现在和未来，总是隔着时间的距离来重新认识曾经发生的事情。这同样体现在他近三十年的创作中。

关于过去，何工的作品中总是呈现为历史图像或母题。图像与母题是一种大历史视野的体现。在大历史视野中，他一方面关注历史对个人的影响，另一方面又从微观理解历史的偶然性。历史的魅力不在于确定的和宿命论，而在于不同因素相互交织的张力。在历史图像和母题的处理上，他会直接地呈现，也会将不同的图像和母题编制在一起。最终，他的艺术中所涉及的不仅仅是历史的主题，也是政治与文化的主题。因此，他的作品会呈现出一种历史的蒙太奇景观。
他的生活与艺术是统一性的。“在路上”是对一种单一经验的超越，也是对地理与文化边界的个人跨越。就此而言，何工就像一个生活在地图上的人，也在以流动的生活绘制属于其个人的地图。在艺术中，他对不同历史图像和母题的引用，也犹如他的思想与观念的轨迹的显现。他以此方式摆脱单一的历史、政治与文化对个人身份的塑造。因此，“地图”既是有形的，也是无形的。我们不仅希望人们通过“地图”展览理解何工的生活与艺术，而且希望人们通过何工的“地图”认识一个新的世界。

About Exhibition
He Gong has started a nomadic life of being “on the road” since he went to study in the United States in 1986. In the way of material life, He Gong often feels a certain degree of disability. Therefore, minimalist survival has all along been his strategy. The art residency programs around the world provided him shelters during his nomadic life and will become routes and coordinates of his upcoming global driving route.
He Gong’s nomadic life distinguishes him from the contemporaries. His nature as well as experience and readings in the past led him to this path. Before going to college, he lived in the environment where the world was narrated with one single voice. He fascinated by and yearned for the world and lifestyles that described in Robinson Crusoe and On the Road.
He Gong’s nomadic life is characterized by its own characteristics and perspectives: rather than aimless wandering, his journey is to approach places that he has read or heard about in the past. He is more interests in the past than in the present or in the future, reacquainting himself with what has happened across the distance of time. This is also reflected in his artworks of the past thirty years.

About the past, He Gong’s artworks are always presented as historical images or matrices. Images and matrices are embedded in the large perspective of history. In such perspective, he pays attention to understand how history had impacts on individuals on the one hand; and looks at the contingency in history from a micro perspective on the other. The fascination of history does not lie in the determinism and fatalism, but in the tension emerged in the interweaving of different forces. When deals with historical images and matrices, he presents them directly but also compiles different ones together. Ultimately, what can be found in his artworks are not only historical themes, but also political and cultural themes. Therefore, his artworks present a montage landscape of history.
There is a unity in He Gong’s life and art."On the road" is the possibility to go beyond the single experience; it is also the personal effort in crossing geographical and cultural boundaries. In this regard, He Gong is like a person who lives on a map, drawing one’s own map with mobilities. In his artworks, the references to different historical images and matrices are presenting the trajectory of his thoughts and ideas. He escapes from being shaped by single history, politics and culture. Thus, the "map" is both tangible and intangible. We hope that people will not only understand his life and art through the exhibition “map”, but also will recognize a new world through his "map".

麓山美术馆
麓山美术馆位于成都市天府新区麓山国际社区麓镇山顶广场，是由成都万华房地产开发有限公司于 2016 年 10 月投资创办的民营美术馆，作为非盈利性的艺术机构，将逐步建立从收藏、研究、展览到公共教育的运营体系。麓山美术馆总面积 3800 平方米，设有展厅、会议室、茶歇区以及仓储空间。麓山美术馆将以开放的态度，关注当代正在发生的艺术现象，以学术的标准，树立高品质的文化标杆，推动中国当代艺术的发展。
Luxehills Art Museum is located at Peak Square of Luxe Town, Luxehills International Community, Tianfu New Area, Chengdu, China. It is a private museum invested by Chengdu Wide Horizon Investment Group Co., Ltd in October 2016. As a non-profit art institution, it will gradually build up an operation system including collection, research, exhibition and public education. Luxehills Art Museum covers an area of 3800㎡, including exhibition halls, an auditorium, tea house and storage space. It endeavors to give concern to the contemporary art phenomena occurring at the moment with an open attitude, to establish itself the highly qualified cultural benchmark and to promote contemporary Chinese art with academic criteria.
